Stopped by my brother’s the other day to pick up that water thingy that increases the pressure of your water so you can clean off your house, windows, porches/decks, etc. This was just after a stressful day the day before with a dear friend who had to commit a loved one.
My brother and I were talking. See if you don’t already know – our family has a super long history of #HD #HuntingtonsDisease and our mom who struggled severely from the mental side of this disease committed suicide. We have seen some pretty horrific things when it comes to this monster that plagues our family and during our conversation we realized we’d both rather be dead than have Huntington’s disease.
We weren’t just blowing smoke and we were just being real and honest. This disease has been the cause of many suicide’s and with it’s ability to take nearly ALL of who you are and trap you inside of a body that is no longer yours. You can’t speak, move of your own accord, eat, swallow, walk, talk, etc. Eventually, you just lie in a bed, jerk around with no control, and stare into space wishing you could connect and your loved ones that are left feeling helpless wanting to know what’s happening in your mind, your heart …
What are you feeling?
What do you want to say to them?
Where are you?
Are you in there?
Are you in pain?
Do you need anything?
And no one knows … so they do the best they can to deliver what they think they’d need in your shoes, but they can never truly know because they do not know what it’s like to be the one in that bed. It’s a miserable life and no one wants to go there …
My brother and I have a 50/50 chance of inheriting this awful disease. If we have it then our children have the same chance.
#HD #HuntingtonsDisease is degenerative neurological disorder said to be the worst of them ALL bundled together (ALS, Parkinson’s, etc.) THERE IS NO CURE … but you can help.
